halloween safety!

a good friend of mine posted this as her facebook status today and i feel like this message is a really important one, and one that needs to be shared. halloween is a fun time of year for everyone, so as adults let’s ensure that happens for all the kids!

“With Halloween upon us, please keep in mind, a lot of little people will be visiting your home. Be accepting. The child who is grabbing more than one piece of candy may have poor fine motor skills. The child who takes forever to pick out one piece of candy may have motor planning issues. The child who does not say trick or treat or thank you may be non-verbal. The child who looks disappointed when they see your bowl might have an allergy. The child who isn’t wearing a costume at all might have a sensory issue (SPD) or autism. Be nice. Be patient. Its everyone’s Halloween.”

and, since we’re on the topic of fun and safety at halloween,
have you considered going peanut-free with the treats you hand out?

pumpkin carving ideas!

bear asks me every day if today is the day we will be carving our pumpkins and each day i try to  patiently explain why not now, why we are waiting and that today is not halloween. dude is impatient for halloween and i get it! it’s fun and festive and he gets to eat lotsa candy!!!

here are some funky jack-o-lanterns to get your creative juices flowing and them craving fingers ready! we usually do at least one pumpkin per family member! can’t wait!

what are your pumpkin ideas?
do you use some creative techniques or tools to get the job done?
or do you just let the kids do the whole thing?

and don’t forget to save the seeds and then bake them! yum!

creepy cobwebs :: a halloween craft!

we LOVE this easy and quick craft, which we found HERE.

wax paper
glitter* (whatever colour you desire)
white glue
a fridge

cut a piece of wax paper to desired size.

take white glue container and gently squeeze out the glue, creating the cob web, i started with a + , adding diagonal lines and then the curved webby pieces.

once you have made your glue web base, sprinkle on the glitter and jiggle the glitter around by gently shaking and curling your waxed paper. make sure you get glitter on all of the glue.

place in fridge until hardened. ours took about 24 hrs.

when the glue is hard all the way through, gently peel the glittery cobweb off of the wax paper and voila, you have a fancy decoration ready for use!

* we tried using glitter glue, but it didn’t work at all.

you can use the webs on a table top, a window or attach it to a wreath. the choices are endless, just use your imagination!

let me know how your cob webs turned out!
