DIY halloween lights!

October 22, 2014 by mama lola

DIY halloween lights, halloween, crafts, lights

check out what we made! i got the idea from landeelu.

during our current reno it’s hard to get too involved in crafty-goodness as everything is packed away in boxes or hidden in a corner under a pile of stuff. so this project was perfect, few materials and nothing to clean up. my boys loved, LOVED this craft. i bought a box of 30 ping pong balls from canadian tire for $10 and sharpies from target for $8, sounds expensive but the markers will last a while and we didn’t actually use all of the balls. i found a string of green x-mas lights in the basement, which i thought were perfect for spooky halloween lights!

*i did let both kids use permanent markers, but you don’t have to!

check-out the spooky mummy, eye ball and pair of bats my boys drew!

MATERIALS:

ping pong balls

permanent markers

exacto knife

string of x-mas lights

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. decorate each ping pong ball. we did all kinds of halloween themed drawings like bats, pumpkins, bleeding spider web, eyeballs and a mummy! spoooooky!

2. cut an X on the ping pong ball with an exacto knife. attach to light string. (consider which way you want your eyeball or other image to face once attached to light string)

3. hang in a place where they can be admired and plug in!

hope you love making your lights as much as we did!

christmas bucket list!

November 18, 2013 by mama lola

christmas is a very fun n’ busy time of year. the boys, especially bear, keeps asking when december will get here, because that is when we start our holiday festivities at our house.

we hang up the large advent calender i made a couple of years ago, DH battles with the lights outside and gets them up on our front porch, and within the first week of december we get our christmas tree purchased and decorated.

to make sure we get everything done this season, i made this bucket list. i couldn’t fit everything on there that happens, as christmas is a very busy season!

what’s on your christmas bucket list this year? anything new?

what are your x-mas traditions?

christmas crafts for kids!

November 12, 2013 by mama lola

christmas crafts, kids christmas crafts, paper crafts, reindeer crafts, santa claus crafts

tis the season again to make all sorts of adorable christmas crafts with the kids. i know my kids are ready to get their x-mas craft ON!!! they have both chosen their favourite crafts from this collection! There is a craft that has been recommended to me by other parents and that’s hand casting! They’ve had their children put their hands together in a casting pot and had a 3D (realistic) model of their hands come out, I think that sounds amazing, plus not only is it a craft, it’s also a great gift for a parent or grandparent, before you start though you’ve got to check out some casting tips first to make sure it goes off without a hitch, safety first! I’m seriously considering getting it done as a surpise for the other half.

thanksgiving & fall crafts!

November 2, 2013 by mama lola

i thought i would put together another thanksgiving/ fall craft round-up.
thanksgiving is coming up, the colours are changing in the trees, so clearly fall has arrived!

check out these great projects!

recycled paper acorn banner from crafting a green world

felt acorn napkin rings from tikkido

leaf jar candle holder from kidz world

hanging leaf garland from full circle

woven placemats from mind bites

leaf masks from 5 orange potatoes

i really like the leaf garland and think we might make one, before we get overwhelmed with christmas crafts.

i will try to squeeze out a few more fall crafts while i can!
